Bournemouth Oceanarium – fantastic marine attraction

While Bournemouth and nearby Poole have a long association with the sea (it helps being one of the UK’s most formative seaside holiday destinations!) – for those looking for a more detailed investigation of marine life Bournemouth’s Oceanarium is hard to beat.

Based directly opposite Bournemouth’s famous pier on west beach, the Oceanarium features a plethora of marine environments from the UK’s waters to exotic seas such as Hawaii, Key west and rivers such as the Amazon and Ganges – each features a stunning variety of fish and marine life. Featuring 10 environments across 2 floors there’s plenty for all to see with the highlight being a stunning walkway through the main tank where you can almost reach out and touch the rays, sea turtles and sharks that swim overhead.

With feeding demonstrations, talks and interactive display’s Bournemouth’s Oceanarium wears its educational ethos firmly on it’s sleeve and there are many things for the younger generation to both learn and enjoy with a Kids club and quiz trail.

In 2008 the Oceanarium will launch an interactive dive cage experience providing a virtual adventure – with various events throughout the year a well stocked gift shop and comfy café this is one of Bournemouth’s truly great attractions that’s not only great for a rainy day where you might want something to do in doors but great all year round.
